Many volunteers are needed to help Winchester Got Lunch fulfill its mission. Every Monday in the summer Winchester Got Lunch teams pack grocery bags full of lunches for the week. The Team's delivery crew delivers the bags of lunches to the homes of the families of needy children.
Last summer we found that having high-school aged kids helped with a lot of the heavy lifting, and it also allowed them to do some community service. The program begins the end of June and weekly packing and deliveries continue through the end of August.
The First Congregational Church has generously provided space for a WGL home base.
Thursday Pick-up and Load-in: The bulk food supplies need to be picked up from Whole Foods in Woburn and delivered to the First Congregational Church. We need additional people who will meet the delivery cars to load-in the bulk food to the storage area at the church. This activity will take place on alternating Thursdays throughout the summer. Please note: HEAVY LIFTING is required.
Pick-up is at Whole Foods, meet at Customer Service desk
Load-in is at Chidley Hall, First Congregational Church
Monday Packing and Loading: Each Monday morning, the teams set up the delivery stations to streamline the process of packing the delivery bags. They will follow weekly menus to fill the delivery bags, as well as help load the driver's vehicles. This group is also responsible for leaving the areas neat and clean at the end of each picking and packing session.
