About Winchester Got Lunch
Winchester Got Lunch (WGL) is a collaborative community effort of Winchester faith-based organizations, schools, businesses and civic groups. Founded in 2012, WGL provides nourishing lunches during the summer for students who rely upon subsidized school-year lunches. WGL is run completely by volunteers and supported financially by the Winchester community. Almost 25,000 lunches have been provided by WGL since we began in 2012.
During the summer school break, WGL volunteers meet once a week to purchase food, pack lunch bags containing enough healthy food items to prepare lunches for five days for a child, and deliver the bags directly to each participant’s home. During the rest of the year volunteers help by organizing food drives and holding other fundraisers.
WGL could not do our work with the help of our partner, Whole Foods, the many parents and students who contribute to the food drive held at each Winchester Public School, the First Congregational Church who provides space for food storage and packing, the churches, foundations and individuals who donated money to support our programs, and our dedicated volunteers who pack lunch bags, deliver food, and raise money for our program.
"Thank you for helping my family stay healthy & nourished."
